For those of you who have been singing your whole lives – imagine for a moment a singer who got his first singing platform at the age of 10, in his school stage competition for solo singing. He wanted to set his own milestone in classical music through his unique singing style. This is the story of Ishaan Nigam, who started singing at the age of 9, conquering each challenge with more energy and more enthusiasm to reach to the apex. A man who is managing his job along with his dream, but did he manage it effectively? Yes. He worked harder than ever to regain the ability to do what he loved and did it!
It was an unusual and very fascinating too to interview a person who believes “if you have music in your life anything can be achieved.” He never knew that he would be a musician one day and his life will entirely change after adopting music as a career. Music is a blessing from god to him and he want to use this blessing to set a milestone in classical music through his singing talent.
We are saying it unusual because we have taken his interview at 11 p.m. Yes! Yes! at 11 p.m. !!! we are too dedicated and passionate about our work and what we do 😉 and fascinating because his story was so interesting from the beginning that we were not able to interrupt him and cover the extra things that we were not covering initially during conversation. We were more curious to know more and more about him because every phase of his life was exhibiting a new life challenge story that actually we want to show to the world, so we can motivate all new comers who are finding out a way, a guideline to get success in music industry.
“If you want to develop yourself in each and every aspect, surround yourself with those you look up to”– This statement truly represents this person who is defeating all the hurdles in life to make his career in music and has made a promise to himself that he will NEVER GIVE UP until all his dreams comes true. We are talking about Ishaan Nigam.

His schooling is from St. Norberts School. We asked few questions about his life and how he is handling his passion and career side by side. So let’s dig in a little bit.
Excerpts from the interview:
Q. How did you get into the music?
A. I am brought up by my Grandfather & Grandmother in a small town Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. My morning was starts with Bhajans and religious songs. Till that time, I was also not aware about my singing talent. My first compliment to singing was my selection in the stage competition for solo singing. I also got the award for singing at the age of 10 in school function in singing competition. So I can say that it was the first influence where I get aware to my singing talent and through which I get into the music.
Q. Tell us your journey from the point when you started your music journey till now?
A. As I told you about my initial childhood was with my grandparents. It was a small town where there was no proper infrastructure to polish my skills. So a communication gap was there. I was also not aware about the different platform where I could have got opportunity to show my talent. When I joined engineering college, first time I have seen so much instrument all together in reality. I never miss a single day to visit music room and practice my singing. I never go with that attitude to become a show case or rock star. I actually want to learn the music from the core and in the second year of my college I got my first music Guru Ji Shree Eric Vinod Kustenso ji, whom I started taking basic music theories, guitar & piano lessons.
He was the guitar teacher in the college and he was noticing me since 1st year. My dedication and punctuality impressed him, that I got to know later on. He suggested me to learn Guitar from him and I accepted it without giving a second thought.
After that in final year I got opportunity to participate in UTV Bindass Dream-start,where I was selected as top 20 musician around India.
My second Guru Ji is Shree Manas Raj Tiwari ji; he is my first Indian classical guru. I have learnt a lot from him about classical music.
I am currently a disciple of Shree Ghulam Hasan Khan ji and I am finding myself on the right track.
Q. What are the challenges that you have faced till now to project yourself in music industry?
Challenges to come in Music Industry:
For a small town boy, it was really challenging, because there are no such opportunities to go further in this field as a full time. You are a good singer it only shows that apart from your other talents you can sing well that all, story ends here. But when I joined engineering I got the connect to the music and literally the meaning of music.
Challenges to Project yourself in Music Industry:
If you are a music lover and wants to make music your life, this though is really easy to think, but in actual reality the scenario is completely different. You know there are hundreds of singer produced in music industry every year. So to became a renowned name you should have that patience level, courtesy, fighting attitude and a uniqueness that defines you. I am also in the race to get my GOAL soon. But When you make your mind to go you will obviously reach your destination that what I always think in my hard times and it really motivate me to go for next challenge with more intensity.
Q. Who is your biggest inspiration in music industry and what motivates you?

And I will be privileged if I could learn even 1 %of him. I really want to meet him and to learn from him.
Q. What will be that point when you think to yourself that you have arrived now?
A. Honestly speaking till now, I have not think about that point. But if I say in general then the point when I will have my own identity in music Industry and when there will be any talk of music will take place, Ishaan Nigam should be remember with music. And when this thing will happen then I can think that I have reached to that point that now I am arrived.
Q. What was your reaction when you get to know that your music has been selected for Nokia tune mashup?
A. Frankly speaking I was unaware about this. My friends call me tell me about this. And I was the happiest person to share this thing with my family friends. Because I was getting a global exposure. It was short but it was the actual recognition which really motivate me in my music learning journey.
